What a VPN kill switch does

While a VPN is connected, everything your device sends travels through an encrypted tunnel, and websites see the VPN server's IP address instead of yours. If that tunnel breaks and nothing stops it, your phone silently carries on over your normal connection, exposing your real IP address and unencrypted traffic to the network you're on.

A kill switch closes that gap. When the tunnel drops, your traffic waits for it to come back rather than leaking around it.

How Aultra VPN's kill switch works

Aultra VPN protects you with two layers that work together:

1. Auto-reconnect kill switch (in the app)

Turn on Settings → Kill Switch → Auto-reconnect kill switch. While the app is running, it watches your connection and reconnects automatically if the VPN drops, so the unprotected window is as short as possible.

2. System-level protection (Android)

Android can enforce the VPN for the whole device. With Always-on VPN and Block connections without VPN enabled for Aultra VPN, Android itself blocks traffic whenever the tunnel is down, even if the app is closed or the phone restarts. The app takes you straight to the right screen.

Use both for full protection

The in-app toggle reconnects you while the app is running. The Android setting blocks traffic even when the app isn't. Together they cover every case.

Turn on the kill switch
In Aultra VPN, open Settings → Kill Switch and switch on Auto-reconnect kill switch.

Open Android settings
Tap Open Android Settings, then the gear icon next to Aultra VPN in the VPN list.

Lock it down
Enable both Always-on VPN and Block connections without VPN.

Good to know

Apps you exclude with split tunneling use your normal connection by design, so they are not protected or blocked by the kill switch.
If Always-on VPN options are missing on your phone, your device maker hasn't included them. The in-app kill switch still works.
